Pray for Your FamilyBy Nonna Joann • May 17th, 2012 • Category: Nonna's Bible Study
The promises of God are yes and amen! Pray daily for your family.
God is good. He hears our prayers and has given us the power to overcome.
Isaiah 55:11 promises, “So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
We live in a fallen world, where terrible things can happen to families. It was not God’s design for us to experience sickness and death. Death and destruction came as a result of sin. Although, God provides comfort and healing for us. And when the outcome is not what we desire, God carries us through the hard times.
As I was getting ready to post this, my daughter, Jackie called from the hospital. Her family took a little walk after dinner. Nine-year-old Nicole (pictured in the white shirt below) was riding her scooter ahead of her parents. She took quite a tumble and came down hard on her head. So hard, that she was knocked unconscious.
Terrifying as that was to see their child lifeless in the street, when she became conscious, she couldn’t see. It’s very easy to become fearful when our children are in danger. It takes self-control to focus on God’s promises.
A mad dash to the emergency room confirmed that Nicole suffered a severe concision. More phone calls were made and our family began to pray for healing. I made the nearly hour drive to comfort the other children, while Jackie and her husband were in the hospital with Nicole. It can be difficult to praise God during life-threatening events. We thanked God that He designed self-healing bodies for us and that His promises are true. We prayed God’s Word together. Nicole is now recovering. This morning she looked much more alert and her eyesight has improved, although she has a nasty headache.
As our family has grown, so have our prayers.
Not only do we pray for our kids, but grandchildren as well.
Since last Thanksgiving, when this photo was taken, we have one more grandson to pray for.
Protection for Your Family
Whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.
The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you.
Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.
Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren.
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.
He is ever merciful, and lends; and his descendants are blessed.
Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright will be blessed
May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children.
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table. Yes, may you see your children’s children.
But the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.
In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children will have a place of refuge.
The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.
Praying for Your Children
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
1 John 5:18
Because Jesus keeps them safe, the wicked one does not touch them.
2 Timothy 2:22
They follow after righteousness, faith, love, and peace.
Father, give us counsel and wisdom in bringing up our children.
1 Peter 1:14
I say they are obedient, not conforming to the things of the flesh.
1 Peter 1:15
Be holy, in all conduct.
1 Peter 2:2
Desiring the pure milk of the Word that they may grow thereby.
That they are swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath.
Their conduct is without covetousness.
And they are content with what they have.
They do not forget to do what is right and to share.
2 Peter 3:18
I pray that they grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:1
Abound more and more in how their should walk please You.
1 Peter 5:5
That they submit to their elders, and to one another.
He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young.
For I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children.
All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.
They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth children for trouble; for they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.
Sleep Issues With Kids
I will lay me down in peace and sleep; for thou Lord, only makes me dwell in safety.
Thou shall not be afraid for the terror by night.
Yea, thou shall lie down and thy sleep shall be sweet.
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”
You did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
Overcoming with Jesus
And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning. For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.
Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?
1 Corinthians 7:14
For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.
