After the demands of raising children lessened, she worked full-time editing the Colorado Christian News. It seems fitting that Nonna Joann has returned to the topic of healthy eating. It was the king of picky eaters, her grandson Joshy, who was the inspiration for her first book Baby Bites: Transforming a Picky Eater into a Healthy Eater.

In addition to her books, Nonna Joann produces a weekly ezine. She serves up oodles of food fun and hot kitchen tips, with a generous helping of sizzling nutrition news. She frequently speaks to mom and parent groups as well as teacher conferences.

Nonna Joann and her husband of over 40 years, Dick, make their home outside of Denver, Colorado. They have four grown daughters and seven grandchildren (one more due in January 2010). And, yes, Joshy is no longer a picky eater, but a healthy eater!

*Nonna is Italian for grandmother

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Release is expected in mid-November 2009)
The Forest Feast: Baby Bites Mealtime Adventures
By Nonna Joann Bruso
(Read-aloud whole foods storybook for preschool and early elementary children)
Denver, Colo.–Healthy eating has never been so much fun! In the new storybook, The Forest Feast: Baby Bites Mealtime Adventures, best friends Try Rannosaurus® and Betty Baby BitesTM LOVE whole foods, especially veggies! The characters model healthy eating habits for children because they naturally eat what is good and wholesome.

Try is a growing dinosaur with a massive appetite. Unfortunately, his brain isn’t in direct proportion to his large mass. He’s eager to try any new food (that’s why he’s named Try) and his favorite is the green variety, after all he’s green. Try often exclaims, “Green food is yummy!” In The Forest Feast, he’s searching for a special veggie to bring to the weekly supper. At day’s end, everyone is surprised by Try’s contribution.

Betty Baby Bites is the brains behind the dinosaur. She’s a foodie, loving the culinary arts. Betty is an Italian mouse and can often be found supervising meals, while offering encouragement. Betty loves to interject her favorite words of support: fantastico and bravo.

These lovable buddies experience three whimsical escapades on their way to the weekly forest feast. The day begins with a rumbling in Try’s tummy. Staying on task to find a special veggie for the weekly feast is difficult, because Try is constantly interrupted by his need to refuel. At day’s end, Try surprises everyone with his contribution.

The Forest Feast fuses fun with veggies. Try and Betty’s escapades encourage children, especially picky eaters, to eat their veggies. After reading The Forest Feast to children, kids are sure to agree with Try, “Green food is yummy!”

‘Baby Bites’TM Press Release

Baby Bites: Transforming a Picky Eater into a Healthy Eater
by Nonna Joann Bruso
(Parenting book for parents of picky eaters)
Denver, Colo.– Forty-nine percent of moms say they have a picky eater. Not willing to “cope” with a picky eater or “hope” a picky eater will someday change, Nonna Joann tackles this ever increasing dilemma. Baby BitesTM is her breakthrough method incorporating multi-sensory learning.

Motivated by her two-and-half-year-old grandson, Joshy, who had been winning every food battle, Nonna Joann found a way to circumvent his extreme resistance to eating healthy foods. She condenses forty years of parenting and grand-parenting, as well as her thirty-year passion and independent study of nutrition, into yummy bite-size pieces.

Parents are often out-maneuvered by their preschoolers, and end up giving them the foods they willing eat: junk foods. To their detriment, these foods are directly related to the epidemic of childhood disease and obesity we’re experiencing today. Baby BitesTM offers practical advice, while providing parents the tools needed to transform their picky eater into a healthy eater.

Even the most resistant picky eater is disarmed when directed-play (Nonna Joann’s unique parenting technique) becomes a pathway to learning during mealtimes. Her two lovable characters, Betty Baby BitesTMand Try RannosaurusTM, transform dinner disasters into positive multi-sensory learning experiences. Healthy eating springs from the synergy of the Baby Bite Steps: Whole Foods + Positive Discipline + Directed-play = a Healthy Eater.
